Height Requirement In Major League Baseball

Question?

Shortround asks:

Is there a minimum height requirement to play minor league or major league baseball? I recently heard there was at one time... is it still in effect?

No, there is no written height minimum for Major League Baseball.

However, the commissiner has the ability to void any contract on any baseball team, which is what happened to Eddie Gaedel when he was inserted as a pinch hitter during a St. Louis Browns game after being signed by Bill Veeck, Brown's GM. This contract was void after Gaedel's first game, because the American League president felt that Veeck was inserting a midget to pinch hit in order to make a mockery of the game.
