Ball Lodged in the Backstop

Question?

A Baseball Fan from The Baseball Field asks:

Is a player allowed to advance when the ball is stuck in the backstop

If a ball is lodged, the runners get one base from where they were at the time the ball was lodged. If they were 1/2 step from a base they were considered to have only reached the previous base. Therefore the base they are just about to step on is the base they are awarded.
