Contact With a Bounced Pitch

Gary from California asks:

Pitch hits dirt in front of home plate and the batter hits the ball off the bounce. Is this a hit, ball, or no pitch?

If the batter hits a pitch that bounces in front of the plate it is treated as if he hit the ball in flight.
